History of Houston Rodeo and Livestock Show
In the 1920s the cattle industry began to grow in the Texas Gulf Coast region, but there were no large cattle market or packaging centers nearby. After some research, the cattle farmers concluded the markets in which had those features did not do so without a popular livestock show. In January 1931, a group of 7 cattle farmers met in Texas State Hotel which prompted the beginnings of what is now known as the Houston Livestock and Rodeo show.
A yearly tradition since 1931, the Houston Rodeo is an event many locals look forward to in early spring.
